Antioxidant Packed Breakfast Smoothie Recipe
07 Oct 2008

It has been almost a year since I made a vow to start taking an appropriate dose of antioxidant rich fruits every morning with my breakfast. I quickly learned that for me, the best possible way to obtain this goal was to make a smoothie blended with the right ingredients. You can substitute almost anything in the recipe, but I’ve tried so many combo’s I believe I got one of the best possible tasting healthy breakfast smoothie.

I used to drink green tea and soon moved on to drinking white tea, but found the taste of both lacking in the flavor department. Back when I was trying to lose weight I would drink Slim Fast to be my meal replacement, and get my daily vitamins. I found I was still burning out mid afternoon, right when I really needed that extra energy boost to finish off the workday in good fashion. By January last year I was always hearing about antioxidants, and especially the Acai Berry. It let me to read up all I could on the amazon berry, as well the amazing benefits of antioxidants.

The Right Tools - The Key to Baking a Cake
05 Oct 2008

Whether you are just starting out baking cakes, or an experienced cook, you will need to make sure you have the specialized cake baking tools the task requires. If you have an otherwise well equipped kitchen, but typically don’t bake, you likely will not have the equipment you need. Baking adds another dimension to your cooking skills, and is especially useful for special occasions.

The first essential is mixing bowls. They come in stainless steel, glass or ceramic. You may have a personal preference; all are effective. You can never have too many mixing bowls, and you will want to have them in many sizes from big too small. Chances are you can find a stacking set that are easy to store yet provide you with many options.

One thing you will certainly need is a selection of cake pans. Cake pans come in many varieties, and materials, ranging from simple disposable aluminum to clay bakeware. Generally speaking, the heavier the cake pans are the better quality they most likely are.

You may want to consider cake pans with nonstick coatings as your choice of cake baking tools. Nonstick coatings will make for cake pans that easily release the cake and clean up rather simply also. You will thus be able to remove the cake from the cake pan without spoiling the top.

A Guide to Selecting Cooking Utensils
04 Oct 2008

There are an infinite variety of cooking utensils. Some are necessary, some are not. To complicate things further, some of the unnecessary cooking utensils can still make your time in the kitchen easier, more enjoyable and more productive. Some utensils are designed for a very specific purpose, to do one particular job in the kitchen, while others are more general purpose, all-in-one tools.

Your first step is to figure out what type of cooking you prefer to do. This will inform your selection of cooking utensils. If you prefer to bake you will need an entirely different set of cooking utensils than if you prefer to cook Asian stir-fry. Once you’ve decided this, you can make a list of the types of utensils you will need.

Just as the way you cook should inform which cooking utensils you choose, so should also consider what will work with your cookware. Different cooking surfaces require different utensils. For example, if you use a frying pan, you need a spatula. If you use a nonstick frying pan, you will need a spatula that is soft enough so as not to scratch the all-important cooking surface. Thus when choosing cooking materials, material is key.

The most common materials for cooking utensils are wood, stainless steel, and plastic. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Like pots and pans, you may buy utensils in sets if you wish, or you may buy cookware one piece at a time.
